This is the complete second movie storyboard (without any of the audio captions) I did for my scene design class. All three Beyond Darkness storyboards are loosely based on the opening chapter of my book. I say loosely because quite a few things have been altered so that they could fit into the storyboard format. The story so far is this: The hero (Gilon) has arrived at his destination, a dilapidated cathedral, and prepares for his final test which he will either overcome or die trying to fulfill. Before the protagonist can ascend to the top he must get past a former comrade (Zorlan) who has succumbed to the darkness he too once fought against. The two know a fight to the death is inevitable and is their ultimate fate that night. Zorlan is confident of his power, and his blind faith in his own strength leads to his demise. In his final moments he recalls how he too once sided against chaos and the sense of calm he felt in his soul. Gilon refuses to deliver the killing blow and calmly heads toward the circular staircase leading to the cathedral's inner sanctum. This final act of mercy surprises Zorlan as he renounces his dark master with a smile on his lips. He passes away with the moonlight cascading down onto him through the cathedral's stained glass windows knowing in his soul that even for someone like him there is hope in the end.
